Job Tip: Tailor your resume

If you are applying for a specific job, then you should tailor your resume (and cover letter) to the job specifications. No, you aren’t going to lie or make stuff up. If a job spec mentions ABC systems, and you have touched ABC systems, then put ABC systems on your resume.

1 – Use the same wording and terms from the job spec
2 – Make the first few words on your resume match the spec
3 – Save the resume, naming the file Jane Doe, Network Specialist
4 – Prepare your references to receive calls on this specific job
5 – Compile the potential list of interview questions as appropriate
6 – Push for a phone interview first to prep for the real interview
