Rebrand Yourself to Seek New Opportunities
May 05, 2010 -
Think of yourself as a bottle of Gatorade®. Why? Because when sales of the neon-colored beverage went flat last year, Gatorade’s marketing team rebranded the drink by touting it as a health-oriented, before, during and after sports drink. Although the ingredients are probably the same, the pitch changed.
It’s a great strategy to mimic if you’re looking for a new job or seeking investors to support an entrepreneurial venture, especially if you’ve been demoralized by losing a corporate job.
“Remember, you are not a …

Always remember when interviewing, not to refer to your skills as past tense. Dont tell the interviewer that “I used to be” or “In the past I” truth is you still are. We want to be the SME (Subject Matter Expert) in an interview.
Ex. If you have served as a Project Manager with medical software implementation experience in your past jobs – guess what ??
You are still a project manager with medical software implementation experience. You want to convey to the interviewer that you are the go to person …

When I first started my career as a recruiter, I worked and trained with a few “old-school” recruiters who had learned the staffing business in the days before internet searches and online job boards … when recruiters were called “Head Hunters” and had Rolodexes filled with prized contacts. It was all about who they knew. The implication of the term Head Hunter was that they only went after top talent – usually people who worked for their client’s competitors – and actually recruited them away from one company to come …

1. Don’t Answer That Interview Question
Inappropriate interview questions and how to respond (diplomatically).
September 10, 2009
By Lisa Vaas, The Ladders.com
He was in his early 50s, and he looked every bit of it.
The questions on the job application went right to his age.
After stewing over the form and discarding his first draft, he filled out a second copy. Then, he sat and waited for his interview. As he waited, an attractive, young woman entered the room for a job interview.
She was called in before him. She wound up getting the job.
He didn’t. …

Traditional System response: In case you weren’t aware, social sites such as Twitter are not just being used for killing time. I’m sure you have heard over and over by now that networking is the best way to come across new career opportunities.

Many jobseekers poopoo the fact that they need to get out and attend networking functions. Using very lame excuses, this group of people miss the opportunity of meeting the very folks that could and most likely would be the key to their next life opportunity in the occupational world. Key groups in the Dallas/Ft Worth Metroplex include all the groups associated with the Career Search Network (www.careersearchnetwork.org) and the Southlake Focus Group (www.southlakefocusgroup.com) who entertains over 300 participants in weekly meetings every Thursday.
These groups meet and further hone the networking process by …

I’ve been helping with a lot of letters lately. Here are some typical mistakes and my comments–
Too long. Limit your letter to one page; anything longer than a page almost certainly won’t be read.
Type too small. How old are the eyes of the CEO able to hire you? What is the probability s/he is reading with glasses? Larger is better.
Too complicated. Even if you are smarter than 90% of the people you are writing to (you probably are), you lose when you make the letter complicated, obscure, obtuse. Too complicated …
